Owensboro Museum of Fine Art

The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art presents traveling exhibitions from major museums, galleries and private collections and rotating exhibitions from the permanent collection. The facility includes two structures listed on the National Register of Historic Sites: the 1909 Carnegie Library and the John Hampden Smith House, a pre-Civil War era mansion which serves as a decorative arts wing. The permanent collection features American, European and Asian fine and decorative arts dating from the 15th century to the present; a stained glass gallery of late 19th and early 20th century German stained glass windows; a collection of contemporary studio art glass; a major collection of American Folk Art with emphasis on the works of 20th century Appalachian artists and craftsmen; and a collection of works by artists and craftsmen with Kentucky connections from the early 1800′s to the present.

The Museum Art Market offers works for sale by regional artists and craftsmen.

An interactive art studio and special galleries offer hands-on educational activities for children.

This large museum encompasses many adventures, including Encounter, a unique hands-on, minds-on gallery, a true "edu-tainment" experience. You will also have the opportunity to learn about government in the Wendell H. Ford Government Education Center or Owensboro’s NASCAR connection with a cruise through the motorsports gallery, The Speedzeum.

The Coal Mine Gallery here visitors learn about the history and safety of coal mining in Western Kentucky, then get fitted for your "hard hat", then begin the journey down the coal mine elevator!

Admission is $3 adults/children, $10 family, and special group rates are available.

Many of the museum’s galleries are available for meeting and banquet space, including the Mammoth Lobby, the Wendell Ford Center, the D.A.R. Room, the Derby Room, the River Room and the PlayZeum.

The Owensboro Sportscenter, located at 1215 Hickman Avenue, is a multi-purpose 5,000 seat arena which went through a multi-million dollar renovation in 1997. The Sportscenter hosts concerts, sporting events, trade shows, conventions, meetings, and receptions. The Sportscenter is the home of the 8-time Division II national champion Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers basketball team. The actual floor size is 135 x 83. The height from floor to ceiling is 31 feet. RiverPark Center

RiverPark Center, beautifully situated overlooking the Ohio River, is a bustling regional performing arts and civic center hosting nearly 200,000 visitors every year, including nearly 50,000 students from the Tri-State region. The hundreds of activities taking place at RiverPark include professional Broadway tour productions, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra concerts, free family movies on a gigantic outdoor screen, Friday After 5 music concerts all summer, Bluegrass & gospel concerts, hundreds of educational programs, and many other events.

Situated downtown on the Riverfront with a magnificent patio overlooking the Ohio River, this performing arts center includes a 1,500-seat multi-purpose auditorium and features 6 different areas that can be rented for receptions, dinners, luncheons, dances, meetings, seminars, etc. Additional amenities include full bar service and a list of 30 approved caterers from which to choose.
