Owensboro is showing up more often in tourism, sports, meetings, and entertainment because Visit Owensboro has people who know how to compete.
The recent Messenger-Inquirer “Inquire” Podcast with Daylin Tolgo and Lucas Daunhauer showed part of that story. Both are young professionals helping move Owensboro forward.
Daylin and Lucas both came through Kentucky Wesleyan athletics. Daylin competed in bowling. Lucas played soccer. That background matters.
Athletes are used to pressure. They know how to prepare, adjust, work with teammates, and represent something bigger than themselves. Those habits carry over into the work at Visit Owensboro.
Daylin helps with destination marketing, events, branding, and visitor engagement. Lucas is helping grow the sports tourism pipeline by working with tournament directors and event organizers as the Bluegrass Fieldhouse prepares to open.
That work matters because Owensboro is not waiting around to be noticed. The city is going after more events, more visitors, more tournaments, and more reasons for people to come here.
Mark Calitri, President and CEO of Visit Owensboro, said the organization looks for people with energy, discipline, creativity, and drive. “The right people change the trajectory of an organization,” Calitri said. “You challenge them, develop them, trust them with responsibility, and let them grow.”
That is the point. Owensboro is moving forward because people are doing the work every day. Visit Owensboro is giving young talent real responsibility, and Daylin and Lucas are examples of what that looks like.
