Owensboro continues building momentum as a music destination, and the upcoming Southeast Regional Folk Alliance conference is another example of that growth.
The national conference will bring artists, songwriters, music professionals, and visitors from across the country to Owensboro later this month. Events like this continue strengthening Owensboro’s reputation as a city investing heavily in live music, entertainment, and cultural tourism.
“Music tourism is becoming one of the strongest growth areas in destination marketing across the country, and Owensboro is well positioned for that,” said Mark Calitri, President and CEO of Visit Owensboro. “We’ve identified music tourism as one of our major pillars of success moving forward, and we’ll continue investing significant effort and resources into growing that part of our community.”
Calitri said visitors today are looking for authentic experiences, live entertainment, and destinations with energy and personality.
“That’s where Owensboro has an advantage,” Calitri said. “We already have a strong music culture here. Between the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum, ROMP Festival, Friday After 5, concerts, and national music events, people are starting to recognize Owensboro as a serious music destination.”
Tourism leaders say music events create economic impact throughout the community by filling hotel rooms, driving restaurant traffic, supporting downtown businesses, and bringing new visitors into the market.
The Southeast Regional Folk Alliance conference is another step in Owensboro’s long-term strategy to continue expanding tourism through music, entertainment, and destination-driven experiences. For more information, read about it in the Messenger Inquirer, with reporter Keith Lawrence.
