The Boys from Camp Calhoun Tour

Join the McLean County History Museum in this FREE Civil War Driving Tour of Camp Calhoun on October 11 starting at 9:30 a.m at the McLean County History Museum located at 540 Main Street, Calhoun, Kentucky.  Harold Wilson will lead the tour and discuss the significance of the six locations where the tour will stop. He will be assisted by The Sons of Union Veterans. Camp Calhoun was one of the three largest training camps in Kentucky. Our 15,000- 17,000 great-grandfathers from Camp Calhoun paid a huge price during the 4-year Civil War. You will see the training sights while learning about the training and history of the 5th Division of the Union Army under Thomas Crittenden and Ulysses S Grant. Please bring chairs for the stops on the tour.  Water will be available. Lunch will be provided at the museum following the tour.  Photos are encouraged. In case of rain, a lecture will be given, followed by lunch, with a rain date for the tour of October 18, 2025. Donations to the museum are welcome.  Following the tour, grab yourself a copy of Don Wilson’s new book about your grandfathers, “The Boys from Camp Calhoun.” The books are $27.00. They are also available to purchase on Amazon for $28 plus shipping.
