College Life in Owensboro

If you didn’t know, Owensboro is a pretty big college town. With three colleges located right in the center of the city and one on the outskirts! All of our local colleges offer a wide range of opportunities and give students from out of town a chance to experience everything Owensboro has to offer! Here is a little information to get you started on finding the best college fit for you: 

 

Kentucky Welseyan College 

Kentucky Wesleyan College (KWC) is a private liberal arts institution founded in 1858 in Millersburg, Kentucky. Affiliated with the United Methodist Church, it helps students learn intellectually, spiritually, and physically, offering a supportive and close-knit community environment. They offer 30 majors and 13 pre-professional tracks, with a 13:1 student-faculty ratio! They are located at 3000 Frederica St. 

Brescia University 

Brescia University is a private, Catholic liberal‑arts institution nestled in the heart of Owensboro along the scenic Ohio River. Founded by the Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph in 1950 (originating as a women’s junior college in 1925), it now serves a co‑educational student body of around 1,300 undergrad and graduate students. They offer over 50 majors and minors across associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. The faculty- student ratio is 9:1. They are located at 717 Frederica St. 

Owensboro Community & Technical College 

OCTC is a public 2-year college in Owensboro, Kentucky, and part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). Formed by merging Owensboro Community College and Owensboro Technical College, it’s accredited by SACSCOC to award associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. OCTC offers a wide range of programs with over 50 options in arts and sciences! OCTC has two campuses, and their downtown location is located at 1501 Frederica St. 

Western Kentucky University in Owensboro 

WKU-Owensboro is a regional campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, established in 1980. Located on a 27-acre campus at 4821 New Hartford Road, it sits directly across from OCTC and just minutes from the Ohio River. WKU in Owensboro offers 12 bachelor’s degree programs and 1 master’s program! You can also participate online as WKU offers over 80 online degrees as well!
