Kick Off the New Year with Healthy Options in Owensboro!

Whether or not you’re a believer in New Year’s resolutions, it’s always a good idea to start a new year off on a healthy foot, right?

If you’re anything like us, you just finished up a holiday season coated in processed foods and too much sugar. Hey, and we’re not judging! But just in case you’re looking for some fresher, healthier alternatives as we enter 2025, we thought we’d break down a list of local places with healthy options.

We gotta start the list with Gene’s Health Food. Without a doubt, this is gonna be your go-to for all things natural, organic and cleansing. You’ll find a huge variety of vegetable and fruit juices, organic produce and delicious sandwiches, tacos and soups that contain superfoods, micro greens and all the vitamins. You can also find all the herbs and supplements you need to jumpstart your new year.

Next up, Great Harvest Bread Co. has you covered for breakfast and lunch with a menu that uses local produce and only the freshest ingredients. This bakery and restaurant has used healthy whole grains to create one-of-a-kind breads for 30 years, and they freshly mill their 100% whole grain flour every day! Their sandwiches are layered with premium, nutritious ingredients, and they have a variety of soups and salads that will pack a punch when you need an energy boost during these cold winter months.

Trunnell’s Farm Market is dedicated to providing you with the absolute freshest grown Kentucky products, and this family-owned business has both a farm and restaurant you can check out! Their farm market is open during the winter Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from noon-5 p.m. You’ll find garden-fresh, homegrown produce which includes green beans, cabbage, peppers, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, blackberries, peaches and blueberries. Their vast food menu at the gourmet deli features a variety of salads, healthy wraps, fruit and cheese trays and even fresh veggie trays!

And while we’re on the topic of fresh, homegrown produce, you gotta swing by Reid’s Orchard for all your fruit and veggie needs. This fifth-generation farm grows their produce all year round, and they are currently selling their beautiful fruit baskets filled with orchard-grown apples, bananas, pears and oranges. If you’re looking for organic and locally-grown honey, jellies, dipping sauces, seasonings and baking needs, Reid’s has it all.
