Universal Clown Summit

The clowns are comin’ to town, y’all! That’s right–the Universal Clown Summit & Reunion is making its way to Owensboro for four days of fun and friendship at the Owensboro Convention Center. This is a gathering of clowns–and potential clowns!–dedicated to learning, growing and evolving in their respective industry. The event kicks off Wednesday and will continue into Thursday with a complete day of touring Owensboro’s greatest venues and museums. A two-day convention filled with balloon-making classes, joke writing rooms, advanced magic and theater workshops and full meals will take place Friday and Saturday. The Universal Clown Summit will be held September 4-7. So if you see a clown on the street, give them a wave!

Special Olympics: Softball State Tournament

Owensboro is proud to host the Kentucky Special Olympics for a weekend of exciting competitive play! Held September 6-8, the State Softball Tournament will take place at Jack C. Fisher Park for the first time since 2007! You’ll get to see 36 teams (separated into nine divisions) compete at the state tournament this year. This will also be the first time that the Team Skills Competition–comprised of teams that didn’t qualify for the state tournament–is held in Owensboro. Games will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and start back up at 9 a.m. on Saturday, with the last games of the day starting at 2 p.m. Games will be played Sunday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Softball is the second most popular team sport in the Special Olympics Kentucky program, so be sure to come out and support these players on the field!

Pick Flowers and More at Reid’s Orchard

You can pick ALL the flowers at Reid’s Orchard this weekend, and maybe even a few apples while you’re at it! Right now is the perfect time to stop by this gorgeous orchard and cut a few fresh zinnias, salvia, snapdragons, sunflowers and cosmos for your early fall bouquets. Reid’s has an amazing selection of delicious, homegrown apples, including Gala, Jonathan, Golden Supreme and Autumn Crisp Apples that are ready to be plucked from the trees. While you’re there, grab some fresh yellow sweet corn, juicy tomatoes, sweet watermelon and tasty cantaloupe too!
