Brit Taylor at Friday After 5
We’ve got a heck of a night for you at Friday After 5 this weekend, so here’s everything you need to know about this Friday’s free outdoor music fest! An amazing musician, Brit Taylor is taking the Jagoe Homes RiverPark Center Stage for a night of authentic country and bluegrass music. Born and raised in eastern Kentucky’s Appalachian Mountains, Taylor embraces the traits of her home–faith, family and community–through her music, while expressing her independence with a sense of beauty and humor. This is an artist making music that matters, and her newest album, Kentucky Bluegrassed, was just released in February, so you’ll be lucky enough to get an up-close-and-personal seat to some of her newest sounds. The performance will kick off at 6:30 p.m.
Dancing With Our Stars
Head over to Owensboro for an incredible night of philanthropy and fun at the 12th Annual Dancing With Our Stars: Owensboro Style event on August 3. This dance competition brings out the best of Owensboro and is entertaining for the whole family, and the proceeds support Boulware Mission, an organization created to empower individuals with life skills they need to become self-sufficient and successful. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with the dance competition to follow. Tickets are $100 each, or $800 for a table. Requested attire for this event is semi-formal. Dancing With Our Stars will be held at the Owensboro Convention Center.
Tour Historic War Ship at English Park
You can take a tour of an historic warship right here in Owensboro! The LST-325 will be docked at English Park for two days, allowing the public to take some incredible self-guided tours aboard the multi-level ship. The ship will make its way from Evansville to Owensboro via the Ohio River and dock on August 2 and 3. Tours aboard the WWII warship are available from noon-7 p.m. on August 2 and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on August 3. You’ll get to explore the Main Deck, Troop Berthing, Tank Deck, Mess Deck, Galley, Stern of ship, Wheel House, Officer’s Country and the Captain’s Cabin. Just FYI, there are three flights of stairs on this ship! Tours take roughly 45 minutes and tickets can be purchased onsite ($15 for adults, $7 for kids ages 6-17 and children five and under get in free).
