Yousuf
World-renowned artist Aaron Kizer is hosting a live art show at the Owensboro Convention Center! On June 21, you can experience Kizer’s first live painting event, “Yousuf”–his first since 2019. This show draws inspiration from acclaimed Canadian photographer Yousuf Karsh. Kizer said he’s always admired Karsh’s work–most notably his portrait photographs of iconic individuals from the 20th century. Some of Karsh’s most famous portraits were taken of Audrey Hepburn, Salvador Dali, Albert Einstein and many others. Kizer’s paintings capture the pulse of contemporary culture and celebrate the people and places that his friends, family and community hold dear. Tickets to see “Yousuf” can be purchased right here.
The Great Race
Owensboro is hosting a historic kickoff for the world’s premiere old car rally–The Great Race–this weekend! The Great Race is a large-scale event that features beautiful vintage cars that “race” 2,400 miles from one starting point in America to another over the course of nine days. The excitement begins Thursday, June 20 in Owensboro where you can enjoy a free concert at the outdoor stage at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame from 6-8 p.m. On Friday, racers get to enjoy Friday After 5 with the public. On Saturday, the 135 cars–the biggest lineup in the event’s history–will line up along Veterans Blvd. at 9 a.m.. Celebrate the event with free entertainment from the Bluegrass Hall of Fame and plenty of food trucks, and see the cars ahead of time! The race to Maine will begin at 11 a.m. and the event will conclude around 1 p.m.
Friday After 5
Friday After 5 is a free, summer-long outdoor music festival and street fair held in downtown Owensboro, and this weekend’s event is gonna be one you won’t want to miss! The world’s premiere old car rally–The Great Race–will be happening Saturday, so all the drivers will be at Friday After 5 for a meet-and-greet with their fans! There will be tons of food trucks and live music with three different bands performing throughout the night. Last Call will play on the Overlook Stage; classic rock band Super Bee will perform on the pier overlooking the Ohio River; and soul/dance/R&B band The Consoulers will be jammin’ out at the RiverPark Center stage. Friday After 5 will be held from 5-11:30 p.m.
