In some super exciting news for our sports tourism industry, Owensboro is getting a brand new indoor sports complex! And we’ve got all the details for you right here.
This 80,000 square foot sports facility will be perfect for large-scale tournaments and a variety of indoor sports. Located at Third and Cedar Streets, the facility will boast seven basketball courts that will be adaptable for other sports such as tennis, volleyball, archery, cheerleading, futsal and pickleball.
According to Assistant City Manager Lelan Hancock, this indoors sports facility will create a huge economic impact for the City of Owensboro by bringing in more competitions and tournaments.
“We’re pretty excited,” Hancock said. “This will be a new state-of-the-art sports tournament facility for Owensboro, and our goal is to host and draw in those tournaments for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, archery and dance.”
The facility will open up to a large lobby featuring a mural on the wall that’ll be painted by a local artist. There will be areas designated for coaches and officials, a full-service concession area with tons of tables and chairs, complete with a ground-level viewing area of the courts. There will also be a mezzanine area on the second floor with tables and chairs, charging stations and views of the courts from above.
The seven basketball courts can be transitioned into 14 volleyball courts, as well as multiple pickleball and futsal courts, Hancock said.
The indoor sports complex is slated to open by December 2025.
