BBQ and Barrels: All The Juicy Details For The Barbecue Portion

Friends, it’s time to talk barbecue.

We’ve got an event coming up that’s for all the barbecue lovers out there and, this year, it’s coming back bigger and better than EVER before! That’s right–BBQ and Barrels is hittin’ the pavement of downtown Owensboro May 10 and 11, and we’ve got all the info you need to prepare for this legendary celebration of one of our city’s greatest staples.

Owensboro’s a barbecue city, period. We’ve got some of the most famous barbecue restaurants in the world in our town, tons of amazing church cooking teams, and one of the most unique and delicious styles of barbecue you’ll ever try. And all of this will be on display at BBQ and Barrels.

Starting off, if you’ve never tried Owensboro barbecue, this is where you need to be. Famous for our barbecue-slathered chopped mutton and chopped pork, you’ll find both of these items (and so much more) on the menu from our famous establishments–Moonlite Bar-B-Q, Old Hickory and Ole South.

But those will be far from the only food trucks on the street! Dozens of vendors will take over 2nd Street featuring the best barbecue in the region.

Even more, you can experience classic Owensboro barbecue from our local church cooking teams. These experts will serve everything from barbecue chicken to chopped mutton sandwiches to burgoo to ribs. You’ll have a chance to try a little bit of everything here, all in one place.

This event will also feature the Backyard Cook-Off as an opportunity for backyard barbecue chefs to fire up their grills and smokers to compete among the best of the best. More than 40 cooking teams compete for prizes in each category and the overall championship title, and they’re guaranteed to cook up some of the best beef, chicken and pork you’ll ever taste.

This portion of BBQ and Barrels is all about the food, the smells and the sounds of barbecue sizzling on the grill, and you will not wanna miss it! Food sales will begin at noon on  Friday, May 10, but you can eat all the barbecue your heart desires that day from noon-10 p.m. and from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday, May 11.
