One of the state’s biggest futsal tournaments of the year is being held right here in Owensboro this winter! And you’ll have the chance to see what this unique game is all about at the Bluegrass Futsal Cup, held at the Owensboro Convention Center December 15-17.
So what is futsal, exactly? Let’s talk about it. Futsal is kind of a cross between football and soccer that’s played on a hardcourt surface. It’s played mainly indoors and has similarities to five-a-side football and indoor football. The smaller court size ensures the game is fast-paced and more intense, with more opportunities for goal scoring. Games are made up of five players on each time, one of whom serves as goalkeeper.
With its fast pace and smaller court size, futsal is incredibly exciting to watch, so you won’t wanna miss this large-scale tournament being played by some of the best young athletes in the area!
This tournament will be held on the first floor of the Owensboro Convention Center across three courts. Between games, you can grab breakfast and lunch at the Kentucky Legend Café onsite and explore the rest of our world-class facility, located right on the Ohio River.
And if you have a kiddo interested in soccer, futsal is a great way to train during the off season. The sport can also be enjoyed on its own!
Admission to the Bluegrass Futsal Cup is $10 for a weekend wristband or $5 per day. Children 8 and under get in free.
