Bluegrass fans everywhere have something to get excited about this upcoming year as the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum announced they will be opening an exhibit focused on Jerry Garcia’s bluegrass roots.
Jerry Garcia, you ask? Of Grateful Dead fame? Yep, the same legend who brought many a Deadhead to life got his musical start in bluegrass!
Bluegrass Hall Executive Director Chris Joslin is constantly looking for ways to build a bigger audience for bluegrass – both through shows like ROMP and through new exhibits he helps curate at the museum.
According to Joslin, Garcia was a great banjo player before Grateful Dead took off. Growing up on the west coast, he was involved in both folk and bluegrass music. In fact, the second best-selling bluegrass album of all time is “Old and In the Way,” which featured Garcia.
Joslin thinks this exhibit will bring people in from all over the country to experience Jerry Garcia’s bluegrass background. Many of Garcia’s biggest fans can learn even more about the iconic musician’s life.
Joslin is planning a February 2024 opening for the new Jerry Garcia exhibit, so be sure to keep an eye and ear out over the following months!
