Green River Distilling Co. is set to release the first bourbon of its kind! This year, Green River, in partnership with Visit Owensboro, will release the first-ever ROMP single barrel to celebrate the Bluegrass music festival’s 20th Anniversary. That means you’ll be able to taste the bourbon specially created for ROMP for the first time!
ROMP attendees are familiar with signing the ROMP bourbon barrel at the Visit Owensboro tent each year. At the end of the four-day fest, that barrel is taken to Green River to be filled and aged.
This year, the aged bourbon inside the initial ROMP barrel will be available for purchase.
“The number one question we get at our visitor information tent is, ‘When can I buy what’s in that barrel’? We’re so excited that through a collaborative effort with the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum and Green River Distilling Company, the initial barrel is ready to roll and, more importantly, taste,” said Visit Owensboro’s Dave Kirk.
Nicole Ebelhar, Green River’s Manager of Visitor Experience, said her team is looking forward to additional releases in the coming years.
“This is a project we started in 2018 so it’s great to see it come full circle with the release of this delicious, full-proof bourbon,” Ebelhar noted.
This bourbon is presented at full-proof, 110-proof (55% ABV) and can be purchased at the Green River Distilling Co. gift shop on June 20 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. You can buy a bottle for $59.99.
According to Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum Executive Director Chris Joslin, the biggest correlations between bluegrass music and Kentucky bourbon are authenticity, being grounded in Kentucky roots and culture, and uniqueness.
“So we are excited to see our hometown distillery releasing a special edition ROMP bourbon to celebrate 20 years of the ROMP Festival in Owensboro,” Joslin said. “”It’s just one more reason to fall in love with the Bluegrass MUsic Capital of the World. Sip, strum, repeat.”
