Every now and then, we just have to take a moment to remind visitors how amazing our local parks are. And with summer here, it’s the perfect time to talk about Lazy Dayz Playground at Smothers Park!
Smothers Park spans a large section of our riverfront in downtown Owensboro. You can walk, sit and enjoy the fountains, swing as you take in views of the Ohio River. But if you’ve got kids, you absolutely can’t miss our whimsical, award-winning playground!
Lazy Dayz Playground is absolutely huge and visitors continually brag about its design and structure. It was named one of the best playgrounds in the world by Landscape Architects Network in 2015. Complete with multiple slides, climbing surfaces, walkways and swing sets, this playground is perfect for children of all ages.
It also comes with beautiful, waterfront views. So if your kids need to burn some energy, you can sit to the side and catch gorgeous sights of the Ohio River (especially at sunset) as your kiddos play on one of the top-rated playgrounds on Earth.
During the summer, Lazy Dayz sports a spray park, handicap-accessible overhead ramps inside large artificial trees and several gigantic animal sculptures (both on the ground and in the trees!).
Our downtown playground will keep the kids entertained for hours, and you can even purchase snacks and drinks at an onsite concession stand. Lazy Dayz Playground is open every day of the week from 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
