Owensboro to Honor Nicky Hayden with Summer Motorsports Festival

Owensboro celebrates one of its hometown heroes in a big way each year with Nicky Hayden Week honoring the life of “The Kentucky Kid” and world-famous racer.

Part of that celebration includes hosting one of the largest motorcycle and powersports shows in the state!

The River City Bike Expo will be held for two days this year on June 2 and 3 at the Owensboro Convention Center. This event will not only bring tons of visitors to our city but will kick off Owensboro’s Summer Motorsports Festival, held June 2-10.

With 43,000 square feet of space, the Owensboro Convention Center is the perfect place to host this large-scale event. Attendees can enjoy incredible custom builds, National Builders Manufacturing Displays & Vendors and a Motorcycle Audio Sound Warz Competition, among many other cool displays and events.

Even more, you can spend Friday night at Owensboro’s summer music festival, Friday After 5, for free! Everything is within walking distance to the convention center and both downtown hotels and there will be multiple bands and singers spread throughout downtown Owensboro.

There will be a downtown cruise-in on Saturday, June 3 from 4-7 p.m. and a NASCAR Truck Series Toyota 200 Watch Party at The Lot (900 East 4th Street) at 1:30 p.m.

Sunday is NASCAR Day, which will include a beer release and meet-and-greet with Darrell and Michael Waltrip in downtown Owensboro at 1 p.m. at The Pub on Second. There will also be a NASCAR Illinois 300 Watch Party at 2:30 p.m. and a dirt track racing event at Windy Hollow.

The rest of the week, you can celebrate Hayden’s life and motorsports by attending JEEP Night on Tuesday, Applebee’s Bike Night on Wednesday (6-9 p.m.) and Nicky Hayden Day on Friday, which will include a Nicky Hayden Memorial Ride and Nicky Hayden Night at Friday After 5. There will be a Weller Bottle Sale and Charity Auction to benefit the Nicky Hayden Memorial Foundation at Lure Seafood and Grille. On Saturday, there will be a Poker Run to benefit the foundation and WDRA Bracket Racing.

Be sure to check out the Nicky Hayden Memorial in front of the Owensboro Convention Center while you’re there to honor the life and legacy of the legendary rider. Additional information regarding this weeklong event will be available soon!
