With spring finally here, it’s time to talk about one of Owensboro’s hidden gems, and that’s the Greenbelt.
The Adkisson Greenbelt Park, or just “The Greenbelt” as we call it here, is a 16.5-mile-long walking/running/biking trail that wraps around the entire city of Owensboro, linking together neighborhoods, business districts, parks and schools.
Tying several different trails together through multiple entrances and exits along the way, the Greenbelt gives you the chance to hop on and off as you please, with parking spots located at many of the entry points!
Even better, the Greenbelt’s 10-foot width is enough to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists, and the asphalt surface also meets the standards set by the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Written by local naturalist Obbie Todd, this trail guide can teach you a ton of cool stuff about the historic, natural, and informative aspects of the Greenbelt, including how it came to be, where each trail will take you, and what you’re seeing as you pass by.
For those traveling to Owensboro, the Greenbelt is one of many parks we’re proud to show off here, and it’s a great way to get to know our city, while also enjoying the beauty of nature.
