The 12 Days of Christmas are coming to life this year, and it’s going to be lit (with Christmas lights, of course).
Downtown Owensboro will be transformed into a north pole wonderland, bringing the riverfront to life every weekend with different holiday-themed activities from November 26 through December 19.
For visitors and locals alike, this experience will be worth your while. You can go ice-skating on the Energy on Ice outdoor synthetic ice rink all 12 days behind the Owensboro Convention Center. The rink will be set up on the Kentucky Legend Pier and includes festive holiday lighting, music, food, drink concessions and skate rentals. If you’re not into ice-skating, you can watch as a spectator! The ice rink is made possible by Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, Atmos Energy, Boardwalk Pipeline Partners, and the Staton Family Foundation.
1st Day of Christmas
The 1st Day of Christmas will also feature “Friday After 5: Christmas Edition” from 5-8 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Owensboro Riverfront, where you can enjoy food, drinks and the sounds of the holidays with live music.
2nd Day of Christmas
The 2nd Day of Christmas (Saturday, Nov. 27) will feature the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce’s Shop Owensboro event on Small Business Saturday. This all-day shopping event is centered around the city’s blooming boutique industry, and shoppers can stop by the Owensboro Convention Center at 9 a.m. to pick up a shopping bag full of coupons and discounts!
3rd Day of Christmas
Enjoy Energy on Ice on the 3rd Day of Christmas (Sunday, Nov. 28) with the holiday movie Elf playing on the big screen.
4th Day of Christmas
On the 4th Day of Christmas (Friday, Dec. 3), bring the kids and family to downtown Owensboro for Holiday Photo Night! You can get FREE professional photos taken by Wonder Boy Media at Smothers Park. Christmas backdrops will be provided, and the iconic blue bridge will be lit up in the traditional Christmas colors.
Also on the 4th Day, stop by the Owensboro Convention Center for the Holiday Market, which offers free grab bags to the first 100 people who show up, as well as free stockings or Santa hats to the first 60 kids! The event is free to attend and runs from 3-7 p.m.
Oh, and you can also enjoy another Friday After 5: Christmas Edition at the Holiday Inn Riverfront on the 4th Day of Christmas!
5th Day of Christmas
The 5th Day of Christmas (Saturday, Dec. 4) will kick off at 8 a.m. with the Care Net Reindeer Run 5K. But if you’re not a runner, no worries! You can also walk this 5K, and participants are encouraged to dress up in ugly Christmas sweaters, Santa hats, and anything resembling the holidays.
The Holiday Stroll will run from noon-8 p.m. on the Fifth Day of Christmas, where you can enjoy perusing the different local shops and restaurants in downtown Owensboro. Even more, the City of Owensboro will unveil the Christmas tree lights and Dancing Lights Show at 5 p.m. Head to Smothers Park to see the brand new Dancing Lights at Smothers Park—an interactive lighting experience where the lights dance to a different Christmas classic every 15 minutes!
The Lanham Brothers Christmas Jamboree will take place at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum at 7 p.m. and the German American Bank Nutcracker will take the RiverPark Center stage at 7 p.m. as well, so there will be plenty of entertainment options to enjoy throughout the evening.
6th Day of Christmas
The Sixth Day of Christmas (Sunday, Dec. 5) will feature another Nutcracker performance at 3 p.m., the Holiday Market from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the Dancing Lights from 5-9 p.m. and Movie Night at Energy on Ice from 2-7 p.m. A Christmas Story will be the featured movie.
7th Day of Christmas
Get ready for some hot chocolate on the Seventh Day of Christmas (Friday, Dec. 10) because the Hot Chocolate Hop is coming back to downtown Owensboro in a big way. Various local businesses will be selling different specialty hot chocolate drinks, and you can enjoy ice sculptures along 2nd Street as you sip!
Another Friday After 5: Christmas Edition will also be held on Friday at the Holiday Inn Owensboro Riverfront from 5-8 p.m.
8th Day of Christmas
Did you think we’d leave Santa out of the 12 Days of Christmas? No way! He will be live and in-person on the 8th Day of Christmas (Saturday, Dec. 11) from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Owensboro Convention Center for the 4th Annual Breakfast with Santa.
Later that evening, the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra will present Home for the Holidays at the RiverPark Center. This concert will mesmerize listeners with traditional holiday favorites and fresh new music as well. The concert kicks off at 7 p.m.
9th Day of Christmas
On Sunday, Dec. 12, enjoy the Dancing Lights from 5-9 p.m. and Energy on Ice from 2-7 p.m. This weekend’s featured movie will be the Polar Express.
10th Day of Christmas
Santa’s Sweets is a new event that will run from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17. Satisfy your holiday sweet tooth with some indulgent specialty treats from downtown restaurants and businesses. The Dancing Lights and Energy on Ice will both take place, and Friday After 5: Christmas Edition will kick off at the Holiday Inn from 5-8 p.m.
11th Day of Christmas
The 12 Days of Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a Downtown Scavenger Hunt, which will take place on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Graphics depicting all 12 Days of Christmas will be hidden downtown. Look up, look down, look all around for those graphics! Maps will be given out that morning to help start your search and clues will be posted to Facebook throughout the day.
12th Day of Christmas
The last of the 12 days will feature the Dancing Lights and Energy on Ice from 2-7 p.m. The holiday classic Christmas Vacation will play outside on the big screen for all to enjoy.
