Fall into Fall at Reid’s Orchard in Owensboro

The Apple Festival might be over, but Reid’s Orchard is still going strong, and they’ve got plenty of fun fall-related stuff to do, buy and see.

When Allan Reid opened his orchard in 1873, they mostly sold just apples and peaches. Reid’s Orchard has now blossomed into a 250-acre farm and orchard operation that holds an annual Apple Festival, serves as an outdoor wedding venue and has a fulltime store that sells a variety of sweet and savory treats, including apples.

There’s tons of activities for the kids, such as a petting zoo, corn mazes, train rides and a full-scale carnival.

The Reidland Play Area was built fairly recently, and it’s specifically for the kiddos. There, kids can go gemstone mining, take an apple train ride and hitch a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch! These rides are available on Saturdays from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 12 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Rides cost $2 and pumpkins cost $3-7 each.

But that’s not all! Other activities at Reidland include an apple slider, small and large apple racers, swings, a soybean maze, corn crib, sports inflatable, berry bouncer and swings. Reidland tickets are $8 per child and adults get in free.

If you haven’t already decorated your front porch this season, Reid’s is a great place to pick out your pumpkins and mums. Not only will you find pumpkins in every shape, color and size, you’ll also find a variety of purple, red, orange, white and yellow mums that are sold in three different sizes.

Operating for more than 140 years, the orchards at Reid’s contain 20 acres and 12 varieties of apples, and they are ripe for the pickin’! You can pick your own apples or have the staff pick them for you! Different varieties of apples include Red Delicious, Yellow Delicious, Jonathan, Granny Smith, Pink Lady and Gala.

Inside the apple store, you’ll find everything from homemade fudge, to candy, to cheese and caramel-coated apples. Reid’s also sells a large variety of handmade jelly, salsa and other dips and spreads. If you’re in the market for a gift basket, they make those too!

And you can’t leave Reid’s without trying one of their famous apple slushies! You can enjoy these cold, frozen drinks in a couple different flavors (including good ole’ traditional apple) and are a huge hit with customers. But now that the weather is starting to turn ever-so-slightly cooler, it’s a great time to try out Reid’s hot apple cider too!

Reid’s is located at 4818 KY-144 right on the outskirts of Owensboro and is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
