Bronze Buffalo Festival

History and art collide at the 14th annual Bronze Buffalo Festival, a three-day en plein aire event highlighted by a closing exhibition and Gala. Visit the outdoor festival and paintout Thursday, September 23 to Saturday, September 25 at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art. The gala will feature works of art created during the paintout, live entertainment and southern cuisine.

Two days before the Gala, artists from Kentucky and surrounding states visit Owensboro for the Bronze Buffalo En Plein Aire Paintout to render paintings of familiar local sites and community events. The paintings are entered into a competition and presented in a one-night exhibition at the museum. Approximately 1,500 invitations have been sent to artists in Kentucky and Surrounding states, with more than $3,000 will be awarded to winning entries.

The “Bronze Buffalo” theme of the event celebrates the two heroic-sized bronze buffalos installed in the museum’s sculpture park along Frederica St. The bronzes commemorate Owensboro’s origins, when Frederica St. was once a buffalo trace for settlers making their way to the Ohio River.
