Owensboro Symphony Orchestra – Opening Night 2016
October 22, 2016 at 7:00 PM
Christine Lamprea, cello
Daniel Black, conducting
Daniel Black, the first conductor finalist to conduct on the season will open with a extraordinarily interesting work by young American composer Mason Bates. Bates has become a sensation in large part thanks to Mothership, the work to be performed, because of its being premiered by the 2011 YouTube Symphony. This short energetic opener imagines the orchestra as a Mothership that is ‘docked’ by several visiting soloists, who offer brief but virtuosict riffs on the work’s thematic material over action-packed electro-acoustic orchestral figuration.
