A special showing of the movie Lincoln will be presented by the Daviess County Bicentennial Committee on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at TWO’s Empress Theater, 418 Frederica Street.
Portrayed in the movie is George Helm Yeaman, who was Daviess County Judge, 1854-1858; represented Daviess County in the Kentucky Legislature, 1861-1862; and represented the Kentucky Second Congressional District, 1862-1865, in the U.S. House of Representatives.
January 31, 2015 is the 150th anniversary of the vote by the U.S. House of Representatives on the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which abolished slavery. The passage of the amendment is the central story of the movie.
Following the showing of the movie there will be an unveiling of a portrait of George Yeaman at the Daviess County Court House, followed by a reception.
Both events are free and open to the public.
