Owensboro Announces GeoWoodstock Schedule

One of the largest geocaching events in the world is coming to Owensboro in May with a week of FREE family-friendly fun!

GeoWoodstock XIX is the week of Memorial Day, May 22-28. The event will draw more than 3,000 people to visit the beautiful city on the Ohio River. Owensboro – the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World – is known for its delicious barbecue, pristine parks, fantastic art scene, and award-winning bourbon.

Geocaching is a location-based game, like Pokémon Go, but instead of searching for mythical creatures to capture, geocachers search for containers with logs to sign. After they have signed the log, they put the container back for the next geocacher to find.

GeoWoodstock XIX will be held on May 27 and celebrated all week with events for everyone to enjoy!

The “GPS Adventure Maze Exhibit” is an exhibit that features geocaching and GPS technology, highlighting its history, current uses, and future possibilities. The “Exhibit” is an educational experience for everyone. It will be on the second floor of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Additionally, the GWS XIX team is creating Adventure Labs around town. Like geocaches, Adventure Labs are location-based. Unlike geocaching, where players are looking for a container with a log to sign, they are instead looking for a location. They must answer a question or complete a task to complete the Adventure Lab. Download the app by searching for Adventure Lab wherever you get apps.

On Tuesday, May 23, head to Brew Bridge Entertainment for an incredible night of fun with ax throwing, escape rooms, and a vast selection of vintage arcade games. Food and drinks. It’s a stone’s throw away from the downtown riverfront.

Head to the historic Reid’s Orchard – currently celebrating its 150th anniversary this year – on Wednesday, May 24, for a day of family-friendly fun on one of the most gorgeous farms in Kentucky. Kids and adults will enjoy a petting zoo, train rides, the Reidland Play Area, and outdoor yard games. A fantastic country store sells everything from delicious apple cider slushies and homemade fudge, to homegrown fruits and vegetables.

The fun continues on Thursday, May 25, at Western Kentucky Botanical Garden for our “Venti Cinco de Mayo” event. Escape to Mexico for the day. The garden will be brimming with flowers blooming against a stunning Mexican fiesta backdrop. Food trucks will provide fresh margaritas, cold beer, and authentic Mexican cuisine. This festive experience will provide all the photo ops you can imagine.

On Friday, May 26, head to Owensboro’s downtown riverfront for our world-famous and multi-award-winning outdoor music festival – Friday After 5. With multiple bands, food trucks, and gorgeous sunset views as day turns to night. This is a can’t-miss event for visitors of all ages.
