Taste Authentic Kentucky Cuisine at Sassafras in Owensboro

During your visit to Kentucky, you’ve gotta have some authentic Kentucky cuisine. And that’s why Sassafras should definitely be on your radar.

Newly opened in downtown Owensboro, Sassafras is a restaurant unlike any other in our area. Using locally sourced ingredients and all menu items deliciously made from scratch, you’ll find a long list of famous Kentucky and Appalachian staples at Sassafras.

Not only does the restaurant – owned by brothers Dennis and Matt Weafer – feature amazing food, but it is named after one of Owensboro’s most famous natural wonders: The tallest Sassafras Tree in the world. The combination of amazing history, amazing food and amazing local art makes eating at Sassafras a unique and special experience.

You’ll find a variety of top-notch appetizers ranging from smoked pimento cheese to Johnny Cakes and Hot Brown Fries, as well as dinner entrees that include short ribs and grits and sunflower trout.

You’ll also find an impressive collection of Kentucky cocktails on the Sassafras menu. Again using Kentucky as its compass, the team at Sassafras uses bourbon for many of its drinks, but they play with a number of ingredients to create cocktails with fun names like KY Weather, Bluegrass Margarita and Farmhouse Bee’s Knees.

Located at 420 Frederica Street, you can dine at Sassafras for both lunch and dinner.  Check out their menu right here!
