Owensboro to Host World’s Largest Geocaching Event in May

The largest geocaching event in the WORLD is coming to our city this spring, and that’s something to get excited about!

GeoWoodstock XIX will be held in Owensboro over Memorial Day weekend this year, May 22-28. This large-scale event is expected to bring in more than 3,000 visitors to experience our city, taste our food, hear our music and see what our northwestern Kentucky city is all about.

For those who may not know, geocaching is a recreational activity where participants use an app on their phones to search for hidden containers – also called “geocaches” – throughout the city. It’s an event that brings together people of all ages, ethnicities, races and experience levels.

GeoWoodstock began in 2003 and has thus far been held in cities that include Nashville, Dallas, Raleigh, Seattle and, most recently, British Columbia.

This high-tech treasure hunt is not only a great hobby, but an amazing way to meet other people from all over the country.

As stated by Visit Owensboro President & CEO Mark Calitri, this event puts Owensboro on a national stage.

“The bid process was extremely competitive and involved over four years of hard work to earn the business,” he said. “Our team stayed strong after it and never gave up.”

All of that hard work will soon come to fruition as Owensboro welcomes thousands of GeoWoodstock participants to our city in late May. For those planning to attend, check out all of our amazing hotel options right here!
