Owensboro to Host American Cornhole Organization World Championships

This summer, Owensboro will be hosting the American Cornhole Organization (ACO) as some of the best players from across the globe gather for one of the biggest events of the year – the 18th Annual World Championships.

This event is expected to bring enormous turnout as visitors travel to Owensboro to participate in the cornhole tournament. It’s estimated that more than 800 people (ages 12 to 80) in the form of athletes, organizers and fans will be staying in Owensboro July 25-29.

That enormous turnout will also produce an estimated economic impact of more than $1 million – and that’s just over a five-day period.

Owensboro hosted the ACO World Championships for the first time in 2012, and this will be the second time the city has landed the exciting event.

Hosting a tournament of this size and scale is a big deal in many ways. Not only will it keep our hotels full for the week, but it will bring visitors from all over the world to our local restaurants, bars and shops. Out-of-towners will get a full view of Owensboro and all its potential, and since the tournament will be streamed online, our city will gain even more exposure across the globe.

Athletes will be competing for a $75,000 guaranteed purse and the title of Cornhole King or Queen, also known as the best cornhole player in the United States.

The ACO World Cornhole Championships will be held at the Owensboro Convention Center and admission is free to the public.

And for those who are interested, Owensboro will host the ACO Owensboro Major with Pro Series Event at the Owensboro Convention Center January 6-7.
