Owensboro’s ‘Dancing Lights’ Gives All the Fun Holiday Feels

If you’re in the fairly large subgroup of people that LOVES a good Hallmark Christmas movie, then Owensboro is the perfect place to plan your next holiday trip.

You will be blown away by how beautifully decorated our downtown riverfront looks during the holidays. All those scenes from Hallmark movies that get you into the Christmas spirit – you know, where the characters explore the snow-topped, light-adorned winter wonderland setting around them – can be found right here in Owensboro, Kentucky.

As part of the City of Owensboro’s 2022 Hometown Christmas event, our city has decked out our downtown with thousands of lights that have been wrapped around almost every tree and building in Smothers Park.

But these aren’t your ordinary Christmas lights. Presented by Big Rivers Electric Corp. and Visit Owensboro, these “Dancing Lights” come in every color imaginable, and they’re part of an interactive light show that kicks off every 15 minutes. So not only do you get to watch in amazement as the lights change color, but they’re also programmed to synchronize with a lineup of classic holiday songs you can hear from speakers all across the riverfront.

This spectacle wouldn’t be complete without a giant Christmas tree in the center of downtown Owensboro to top it all off. And our downtown bridge lights change colors too, and you won’t want to miss them beautifully reflected across the water at nighttime.

The Dancing Lights can be explored at your own pace, and the event is free to the public through December 31 from 5-9 p.m.
