Free rides on the downtown Trolley are a must when visiting Owensboro

One of the coolest (and most convenient!) things about being an out-of-town tourist in Owensboro is the downtown Trolley service.

One thing that makes the Trolley stand out most–aside from the old-school look of the bus itself–is that it’s FREE to ride. And yes, you heard that right!

The Trolley provides free transportation on both weekdays and weekends in downtown Owensboro. How often do you see free public transit in the cities you travel to these days?!

You can catch a ride on the trolley at tons different areas across downtown Owensboro, with stop times around every 20 minutes:

  • Walnut and 3rd Streets
  • 3rd and Locust Streets
  • 3rd and Frederica Streets
  • 3rd and St. Ann Streets
  • 3rd and Daviess Streets
  • 2nd and Crittenden Streets
  • 2nd and Daviess Streets
  • 2nd and Allen Streets
  • 2nd and St. Ann Streets
  • 2nd and St. Elizabeth Streets
  • Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown Waterfront
  • Holiday Inn Downtown
  • Owensboro Convention Center

The great thing about the Trolley is that both visitors and locals can experience everything downtown Owensboro has to offer, without ever having to move their car. You can simply hop on the trolley from your hotel and be taken to the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum if you’d like. From there, you can hop back on the trolley and be taken to one of our local bars or restaurants for a fun night out. Or to our riverfront walk. Or to our historic shopping district. And then, once you’re done exploring, catching a show–whatever it is you’ve made plans for–you can catch a ride on the trolley back to your hotel!

The trolley schedule changes with the seasons, but from April-October, you can catch free rides Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. AND from 4-8 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, the trolley’s hours are extended to 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 4-10 p.m.

From November-March, the downtown trolley runs Tuesday-Thursday from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

And if you ever find yourself wondering where the trolley is, you can simply check out this live map that shows you exactly where the trolley is, and where it’s headed next!

The downtown Trolley has been a staple in Owensboro for years, and there’s good reason for that. From the jingle of the bells as it makes a stop to the amazing drivers who chauffeur you around the beautiful riverfront, it’s one of the best experiences our city offers to visitors and locals alike.
