Red Hot Chili Pipers bringing unique blend of bagpipes and rock music to Owensboro

You’ve heard of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But…have you heard of the Red Hot Chili Pipers?

We know they’re not the band you grew up listening to and collecting posters of, but with tours stretching from NYC to Beijing, this band of pipers/rock stars sure is trying to get on your radar. And honestly, they’re a solid group of musicians with a really cool sound.

A little background story: The Red Hot Chili Pipers are a Celtic rock band from Scotland. Formed in 2002, the group gained international popularity after winning the BBC talent show, “When Will I Be Famous?”

The band’s lineup features three highland bagpipers and traditional marching snare, backed by a five- to seven-piece band consisting of guitars, drums and keyboards. Shows also include impressive vocal performances and highland dancing!

Even better, the Red Hot Chili Pipers have used this blend of instruments and bagpipes to create a new sound called “bagrock.” First of all, cool move. Secondly, cool name.

The band performs a fusion of traditional pipe tunes and contemporary pieces, so there’s a little bit of music for everybody here. Notable covers performed by the Chili Pipers include “We Will Rock You” by Queen, “Clocks” by Coldplay, “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple and “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey.

The group even appeared on the How to Train Your Dragon 2 soundtrack!

So, if you’re in the market for something fun and different to listen to, the Red Hot Chili Pipers is a pretty sweet chance to expand your horizon and take a chance on something new. This Scottish bagrock band will perform at the RiverPark Center on March 25 from 8-10 p.m. and tickets are only $19, so get them while you can!
