Hundreds of firefighters to visit Owensboro in February

Owensboro will welcome hundreds of Kentucky firefighters to the area February 25-27 for the Bryant Stiles Officers School, hosted by the Green River Firefighters Association.

This weekend event will create a huge economic impact for Owensboro-Daviess County as these first responders dine in local restaurants, stay in our hotels and hold workshops and training courses at our very own Owensboro Convention Center.

The Green River Firefighters Assoc. has held its annual conference in Owensboro since 2015. In fact, they were the very first organization to book the Owensboro Convention Center for a conference! And they’ve come back every year since.

Back in 2015, president of the Green River Firefighters Assoc. Ricky King said, “This type of event is precisely why Owensboro is building this first-class facility, to host these types of positive economic events in the community, We are thrilled to have our first signed convention contract and look forward to many more as we move closer to the 2013 opening.”

Before the convention center opened, the GRFA held its annual conference at the downtown Executive Inn. When that closed in 2009, the school was relocated to Lexington. However, King said the GRFA never wanted to hold its event anywhere other than Owensboro.

“We never wanted the officers school to move from Owensboro in the first place,” he said.

Visit Owensboro is so excited to see GRFA back in our city, and be sure to thank a firefighter for their service if you see them out!
