Fear Expo Live
Those who love everything horror-related and those who supply everything horror-related will come together this weekend at the National Haunted Attraction Industry’s Fear Expo, taking place at the Owensboro Convention Center January 21-23. The Fear Expo will feature tons of activities and memorabilia for fans of the scary, including Haunt Master Classes, hands-on workshops, a vendor showcase show, live music, haunt tours, a costume ball and a Friday night After Party. Fear Expo Live is dedicated to connecting “attraction owners with the latest products and services from the industry’s leading vendors early in the year to ensure products are delivered on-time, ahead of schedule and at some of the best prices of the year.” The Expo is free to attend, but you need to register online ahead of time for buyer, exhibitor, seminar, speaker and events tickets.
Step Afrika!
Touring all across the country, Step Afrika! is making a stop in Owensboro on January 24 at the RiverPark Center to showcase the tradition of stepping. Step Afrika! blends percussive dance styles practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities; traditional African dances; and an array of contemporary dance and art forms into a cohesive, compelling artistic experience. If you’ve never seen a step show, this is the perfect opportunity to experience something new, educational and uplifting from some of the best steppers on the planet. This show has won tons of awards and in 1994 became the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping. Tickets for Step Afrika! are $27 each and the show starts at 7 p.m.
Live Music at Lil’ Nashville
If you wanted some live music to snap you out of the wintertime blues, Brasher’s Lil’ Nashville is the place for you this weekend. The bar will have live performers every night of the weekend, with the Music City Dueling Pianos taking the stage Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m., along with a daytime performance on Sunday at noon. Opening for them will be live performances from Paul Montgomery at 6 p.m. Friday and Jerred Green at 6 p.m. Saturday. Happiness Jones will follow the Music City Dueling Pianos on Sunday at 4 p.m. Even better, Brasher’s Lil’ Nashville will be offering a Bloody Mary Bar at 11 a.m. on Sunday, so head downtown this weekend for drinks and a good time, no matter which day (or days!) you make it out.
