Top 3 Things to Do in Owensboro This Weekend: December 17-19

Santa’s Sweets

This brand-new event is coming at you from downtown Owensboro, where local businesses and restaurants will be selling homemade holiday treats to satisfy your sweet tooth! As part of the 12 Days of Christmas, Santa’s Sweets is for the dessert lovers out there, and you will NOT be disappointed. They’ll have everything from fudge brownies, to sprinkled sugar cookies, to delicious pieces of pie. Find out which Santa’s Sweet (or Sweets!) is your favorite on Friday, Dec. 17 from 5-9 p.m. Participating locations include Byron & Barclay, Burger Theory, Pub on Second, Lure Seafood and Grille, Energy on Ice at the Owensboro Convention Center, Brasher’s Lil’ Nashville, Simply Chic Home Accents, Willow and Pine and Brew Bridge.

Ice Skating on the River

If you haven’t already tried out Energy on Ice, this weekend is the perfect chance to go for it. Lace up those skates and glide across the synthetic ice rink with your kids, friends or even by yourself! Located behind the Owensboro Convention Center on the Kentucky Legend Pier, Energy on Ice is all about the location, with dazzling Christmas lights overhead and the Ohio River surrounding you on three sides. And if you’re not into skating, that’s OK! Sit from the spectator’s area on Sunday, Dec. 19 to enjoy the featured film Polar Express on movie night. It will be playing on the big screen for all to enjoy. It costs $10 per person (including skate rental) and $8 per person if you bring your own skates.

Sanders Family Christmas

If you’re in the market for a fun, humorous Christmas play for the entire family to enjoy (and who isn’t?), then you’ll love the production, “Sanders Family Christmas.” Coming to a stage near you and presented by Owensboro’s very own Encore Musicals, this holiday show is a return of the beloved “Smoke on the Mountain” series and will run for three performances. Local audiences have come to love the music and delight in the Sanders’ down-home humor and “gospel sing” at the fictional Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, which sits in the shadow of the Mt. Pleasant Pickle Factory. You can catch the show at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17 and Saturday, Dec. 18, as well as a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on Dec. 19. All performances take place at Third Baptist Church in Owensboro.
