Experience the unique charm of Preservation Station during Holiday Market Day

Preservation Station’s One Day Holiday Market Day will take place on November 13 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., featuring over 100 vendors and a delicious restaurant buffet.

First of all, Preservation Station is one of the coolest places in Daviess County because of the history behind its location. The 39,000 square foot building was formerly West Louisville Elementary School before the school relocated. If you walk around the back of the building, you can see where the old playground used to be!

And the interior of Preservation Station reflects the building’s history as well. The bathrooms have been updated a little, but owner Jennifer Higdon kept the stalls, sinks and tiling the same as before. Even more, each classroom offers something different, and the gymnasium and stage have been converted into shopping areas too!

With so much space to roam and such a unique landscape to do it in, shoppers will have a huge selection of antique, unique, boutique and handcrafted items to choose from during Market Day.

Maybe we’re just hungry right now, but let’s talk about that buffet for a second because it sounds almost as good as the shopping selection. From 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Preservation Station will be serving hand-carved, oven-roasted turkey, Kentucky Legend ham, gravy, cornbread dressing, sweet potatoes, creamy mashed potatoes, southern green beans, sweet corn, carrots, fried apples, buttered rolls, a garden salad bar, banana pudding, pasta salad, potato salad, watermelon and a variety of pies and desserts.

But back to the shopping. For those needing (or wanting) more Christmas décor for their home, Preservation Station has you covered. We’re talking tree ornaments, wreaths, poinsettias, outdoor décor, kitchen appliances, garland, stockings, Christmas cards and more Santa figurines than you can count.

But if your house is already exploding with holiday decorations, no worries. Preservation Station has a ton of inventory unrelated to Christmas. Find that one-of-a-kind gift from a selection of handmade soaps, jewelry, jams and jellies, old quilts, desks, shelves, chairs, dressers, beds, farmhouse décor, signs, outrageously cool junk, glassware, barnwood and salvaged pieces, candles, designer furniture, old tools and…well, the list goes on, but you get the idea.

“Come celebrate the beginning of the holidays with us and the return of our legendary Market Day events,” Higdon said.

There is no admission fee for this event, but Higdon said shoppers should “definitely bring a truck.” Buffet prices run from $14.99 to $4.99 for kids five and under.

Preservation Station is located 10 miles west of Owensboro at 9661 Highway 56.
