Owensboro is staking its claim as one of the most “ideal places to dig into country music’s roots” and solidifying it’s spot on the map of best music cities around the country. Owensboroans already knew that, but now word is spreading! In a recent article, Rolling Stone names Owensboro one of seven must-visit cities for country, western, and bluegrass fans.

The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Friday After 5, and ROMP Fest are noted as signature attractions to see during your trip in Owensboro. “Bluegrass fans should schedule their trip accordingly and plan on staying a few days to take it all in,” says the article.

Kick off your weekend stay right with live music and great food and drink at Friday after 5, our award-winning, summer-long concert series. If you plan your trip out right, you just might get to jam out at ROMP Fest, the annual 4-day bluegrass festival featuring some of the biggest names in bluegrass and folk music. The festival is complete with casual jam sessions, workshops, classes, and amazing food and drink. This year, ROMP takes place September 15-18.

The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum is the only cultural center in the world dedicated solely to bluegrass music. The museum’s mission is to educate visitors on bluegrass sounds and rhythms, bluegrass history, and keeping the sound true to its roots. The museum also hosts power performers for on-site concerts year-round.

There’s still so much more to explore — no trip is complete without a taste of authentic Owensboro barbecue, bourbon, and of course, bluegrass. If you’re looking to trace country, western, and bluegrass music back to it’s home, look no further than Owensboro, Ky.
