Bar-B-Q Block Party

The scaled-down Bar-B-Q Fest Block Party is the place to be this Saturday, May 8! The one-day event will take over Second Street in downtown Owensboro to allow ample outdoor seating for tasting all the delicious food. Bar-B-Q Fest traditions like the Backyard Cooking Competition, as well as top-secret recipe barbecue from local churches, will be available. Over thirty teams will be competing for the grand prize. In addition to the delicious barbecue, our downtown restaurants will be open to serve you a wide variety of tasty food and drink. Plus, you can take alcoholic beverages to go when you leave an establishment to enjoy throughout the party. This year, we’re going back to the basics, but that just means more bar-b-q. Don’t forget your mask!

Glorious Glass Exhibit

Once you’ve had your fill of bar-b-q, head to the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art for an epic exhibition of 19thand 20th century art glass. The exhibition will open on Saturday, May 8 and will be available for viewing until July 18. The collection features 250 glass “whimsies”, or art and novelty items made from leftover scraps, usually at the end of a glassmaker’s the day. The exhibit will also include selections from the museum’s collection of 20th century studio art glass. The collection reveals the artistry behind early glassmakers before the Industrial Revolution. The exhibit compliments the museum’s existing art glass collection, including many contemporary works and the well-known stained-glass windows. It’s sure to be a show stopper!
