Green River Distilling Co. – A Must-See Kentucky Distillery

Travel & Leisure, the world’s preeminent travel and leisure magazine, named Green River Distilling Co. one of 12 must-see Kentucky distilleries in their recent article, “12 Kentucky Distilleries All Bourbon Lovers Should Visit”. Green River Distilling Co. joins iconic Kentucky distilleries including Jim Beam and Woodford Reserve Distillery. “It’s always an honor to get named with these other iconic distilleries… we’re just happy to share Owensboro with the world.” Says Master Distiller Jacob Call.

Call oversees all aspects of the distillery’s whiskey production and warehousing as Green River’s third-generation Master Distiller.

Owensboro’s history has come full circle as the Green River Distilling Co. name finally returned after over 100 years. The original distillery was burned down in 1918 and managed to survive that, in addition to Prohibition and multiple owners until 2016. “I think people are really just learning about us with our green River name change. Bourbon, it takes a long time for it to age and come of age. We were always going to do it the right way,” said Call.

Not only is it well known in Owensboro, Green River is a very famous brand from before Prohibition — the most heavily advertised brand of spirits there was. Now the company honors the Green River name with modern touches and advances in the tourism experience, including their spot of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

“Green River is a very historic, iconic brand. We’ve done a lot of things at the distillery whether it be murals on the sides of warehouses to elevating our tourism experience. We’re doing a lot of things behind the scenes that’ll be really launching in the next couple months, says Call.”

The distillery has a variety of popular partnerships including Yellow Banks Bourbon, Terry Bradshaw’s Bradshaw Bourbon, and Duke Bourbon. They’re also releasing their Green River 4-year old aged bourbon early this summer.
