Top 3 Things to Do in Owensboro This Weekend: March 19-21

Bluegrass Weekend is here! Owensboro is excited for one more reason to jam out as the Bluegrass music Capital of the World, and now it’s an annual weekend celebration! Check out all the ways you can have fun this weekend below:

The Nashville Songwriter

Get an inside look into the songwriting process and life as a musician at The Nashville Songwriter. The monthly event takes place at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m. and features talented Nashville-based songwriters in a writer’s round setting. This month features the talented singer/songwriters Lacy Green, Madison Lewis, and Adam Wood. Each artist will take turns performing and give insight into how the songs transform from a notebook in their bedroom to being on a record. They may even perform some songs together. It’s a more intimate setting unlike any other kind of performance. Click here to check out an exclusive preview of the event given from Lacy Green herself! Tickets for the event are nearly sold out! Rhonda Vincent

This year, Grammy Award winning artist and ROMP fan-favorite Rhonda Vincent will perform two live shows on Friday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Rhonda Vincent, aka the “Queen of Bluegrass” is known for her energetic, must-see performances. Many attendees are purchasing tickets to both shows because the band doesn’t follow a setlist; each show will be completely different and include classics, some of her biggest hits, as well new music from her band’s upcoming project. Social distancing and masks will be required. Tickets are running low – click here to grab yours now!

Kentucky State Fiddle Championship

After an incredible show from Rhonda Vincent, you’re bound to want more. Check out the KY State Fiddle Championship on Saturday, March 20 to play, celebrate, and learn all things bluegrass. The museum will hold a variety of competitions beginning at 10 a.m. and running into the evening. In addition to the four fiddle competitions that will be held for all ages, there will be contests for banjo, guitar, mandolin, and even dancing. Cash prizes will be awarded in every category too! And if you’re not competing, don’t worry. There’s plenty of time for informal jamming for musicians, teachers, and bluegrass-lovers alike. There is no entry fee for musicians and dancers competing. Tickets are $10 per person upon entry and include access to the competition and the museum exhibit space.
