Kentucky State Fiddle Championship

With last year’s concerts and the ROMP festival cancelled, we’re overdue for some rompin’ and stompin’ around Owensboro. Thankfully, The Bluegrass Museum and Hall of Fame and museum is delivering just that! 2021 marks the 47th Kentucky State Fiddle Championship in its new home in Owensboro.

The competition has been held in a variety of locations since its beginning in 1974, but now has a permanent home as property of The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum.  On Friday, the museum will host live concerts while Saturday will be devoted to the musical competitions.

This year, ROMP fan-favorite Rhonda Vincent and The Rage will perform two live shows on Friday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. On March 20, the museum will hold a variety of competitions beginning at 10 a.m. and running into the evening. Click here to purchase tickets now! It won’t be just fiddlers competing at the event either! In addition to the four fiddle competitions that will be held for all ages, there will be contests for banjo, guitar, mandolin, and even dancing. Cash prizes will be awarded in every category too! If you’re interested in registering to compete, click here.

The event will also be Covid-19 approved with social distancing implemented at the concerts and during competitions. The event itself is better for social distancing as people will be flowing in and out throughout the day depending on who is playing, according to Chris Joslin, Executive director of the Hall of Fame.

Events like the State Fiddle Championship are important for playing and honoring bluegrass music, as well as encouraging the next generation of musicians who will carry it on!  While you’re enjoying the competitions, make sure you visit the museum exhibits to learn more about the rich history of bluegrass. Celebrate the pioneers and trend-setters of bluegrass music in the Hall of Fame, enjoy stories from musicians themselves, or tour iconic instruments and artifacts in one of the exhibits. The Bluegrass Museum and Hall of Fame and Museum is the one-stop-shop for musicians and fans of the music as the only cultural center dedicated solely to bluegrass and the preservation of its sound.
