Owensboro Selected for KentuckyScholastic 3D Archery State Indoor Championships

Owensboro will host the 2019 Kentucky Scholastic 3D Archery State Indoor Championship at the Owensboro Convention Center on Feb 27 to March 1.  Over 500 archers from across the State of Kentucky are expected to compete for a state championship in their division and class.

“Last year’s championship was held at the Western Kentucky Archery Complex in Madisonville, which is an outstanding facility for archery. As this sport has grown rapidly in Kentucky, we required a larger facility to accommodate our needs.  Owensboro has the perfect venue and so much to offer our families that travel for competitions,” said Chris McDonald, Kentucky S3DA State Indoor Championship Coordinator.

The archers are competing for the title of state champion in the respective class and division. Additionally, they will be competing for KY Indoor Shooter of the Year, which is based on competition points earned during indoor regional tournaments that will be combined with their indoor state score.

‘With this event attracting the archers from across the State of Kentucky we anticipate there will be numerous college recruiters in attendance,” said McDonald.

“One of the main reasons for building the convention center was to bring quality events that drive new revenue into the Owensboro economy. Having thousands of visitors in town staying in hotels, eating in our restaurants, shopping, and buying gas will approach a $400,000 impact to Owensboro businesses,” said Laura Alexander,General Manager of the Owensboro Convention Center.

“We are honored to be chosen to host this prestigious event.  Archery is thriving in Daviess County and we are looking forward to welcoming the archers and their families to our city. The timing couldn’t be better as it’s taking place during a typically slower part of the year for sports tourism,” said Jared Bratcher, Visit Owensboro Sports Marketing Director.

“The event is open to the public and we encourage people to come to the Owensboro Convention Center with your kids and watch archers from across the state compete in one of the fastest growing sports,” said Mark Calitri, President Visit Owensboro.
