2A Basketball Championships features talented field

The inaugural Kentucky 2A Basketball Championships are finally about to begin, with the Owensboro Sportscenter playing host to the brand new event.

Created for mid-sized schools, no local teams are involved with the 2A Championships. However, it is expected to have a big economic impact for the city of Owensboro.

The closest participant school geographically is Webster County, with both the girls’ and boys’ teams making their respective field of eight teams. Other schools with teams in both brackets are Glasgow and Christian Academy-Louisville.

Several teams are near the top of their respective region standings, including the undefeated boys’ team from John Hardin.

First round games take place all day Friday, and semifinals will be Saturday afternoon and evening. The girls’ championship is noon on Sunday, with the boys’ title game starting at 2 p.m.
