CVB online calendar gets good response

Back in February, the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau announced plans to create the community’s first comprehensive calendar of events.

And response has been great, Dave Kirk, the CVB’s destination manager, said Friday.

“It’s just really picked up,” he said. “We’ve seen a lot of positive response. Fundraisers, in particular, have been checking to make sure they don’t schedule something on a day that’s already busy.”

From that list, Kirk said, the CVB creates a “Top 3 Things to Do in Owensboro This Week” list that it publicizes on Wednesdays.

“That’s been working very well,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of response to that.”

There are several online calendars of local events in Owensboro.

But the CVB wants to have everything on its website, so people won’t have to check all of the others.

Kirk said the agency is looking for events that are open to the public with an emphasis on tourism.

The calendar is designed to tell local people what’s happening on any given day.

But it’s also used to help attract visitors to the city, Kirk said.

Even though response has already been strong, the CVB is still accepting information from all groups in town.

Information can be sent to [email protected].

Kirk said the emails should include the name of the event, the organization hosting it, where it is, the date, the time and any cost.

Pictures or logos should be included if possible, he said.

Events on the calendar should be open to the public and appeal to a wide audience, Kirk said.

The calendar can be found on the CVB’s website — www.VisitOwensboro.com
