CVB creating master community calendar

There are several online calendars of local events in Owensboro.

But none of them is really complete with all events.

The Owensboro-Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau, which has a calendar on its website, www.VisitOwensboro.com, is trying to create the community’s first comprehensive calendar.

Dave Kirk, the CVB’s destination manager, said, “One of the greatest benefits to this new service is that, hopefully, this will cut down on people double-booking their events and fundraisers.

“I can’t tell you how many people have told me, ‘I wish I would have known another organization was having their big event the same night of ours. We would have rescheduled it’,” he said.

The master calendar will let organizations know if something major is already planned for that day, Kirk said.

He said the CVB is looking for events that are open to the public with an emphasis on tourism.

The calendar is designed to tell local people what’s happening on any given day. But it’s also used to help attract visitors to the city, Kirk said.

Several organizations have been submitting events to the CVB for years.

But Kirk said the organization wants more groups to participate.

Information can be sent to [email protected].

Kirk said the emails should include the name of the event, the organization hosting it, where it is, the date, the time and any cost.

Pictures or logos should be included if possible, he said.

Events on the calendar should be open to the public and appeal to a wide audience, Kirk said.
