Botanical Garden’s Valentine’s Brunch Coming Feb 11

The Western Kentucky Botanical Garden’s seventh annual St. Valentine’s Day Brunch at The Garden is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 11.

It will also offer a preview of the garden’s fifth annual Orchard Show & Sale on Feb. 17.

Susie Tyler, the garden’s director, said people who attend the brunch will be able to buy orchids on Feb. 11 rather than having to wait until the following Saturday.

“We have a wonderful array of orchids this year,” she said.

City Commissioner Larry Conder and his wife, Rosemary, will be the celebrity chefs for the brunch, Tyler said.

“He’s an experienced waffle-maker who will be bringing all sorts of toppings — chocolate chips, strawberries, blueberries and other fruits,” she said.

The menu includes a breakfast casserole, sweet potato biscuits, ham, cheese, coffee cake, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, deviled eggs and a lot more prepared by Chefs of The Garden, a volunteer group, Tyler said.

The garden’s Valentine’s celebrations began with a candlelight dinner in 2012 and evolved into the current format.

Tyler said Austin Casebolt, an art teacher at Daviess County High School, will be introduced as the garden’s first artist-in-residence during the brunch.

He’ll be working on an art project that day as well, she said.

Tickets are $25 for members, $30 for nonmembers and $12.50 for children under 12.

Reservations can be made by sending checks to WKBG, Box 22562, Owensboro, KY 42304, by emailing [email protected] or by calling 270-852-8925.
