6 Inside Tips for the Owensboro Air Show

The 2017 Owensboro the Air Show is on Sept. 23 and 24 (1-4 p.m. each day) over the Owensboro, Kentucky, riverfront. The event is free, so join the fun!

If you have never attended the air show or just want the best experience possible, here are six insider tips to help you out:

#1 The 2017 Owensboro Air Show actually begins on Friday, Sept. 22 with a chance to see the planes – and maybe some of the pilots – up close on the ground at the Owensboro Daviess County Regional Airport. Head to the airport between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. to see a wide array of military and civilian aircraft plus a few nighttime aerial performances and some fireworks to finish off the night. There is an admission charge of $2 and kids 10 and under are free.

#2 During this year’s show you actually have a chance to ride on a Huey or Cobra helicopter. For the first time at the air show, this unique opportunity is available starting at just $85 with flights available starting Friday, Sept. 22 at noon at the Owensboro Daviess County Regional Airport. Scheduled flight times are on the air show website at owensboroairshow.com.

#3 The best place to watch the 2017 Owensboro Air Show is at Show Center at the Owensboro Convention Center. Reserved seating starts at just $10 per person and gives you prime viewing for the show as well as access to indoor restrooms and numerous food vendors.

#4 Speaking of food – Don’t worry about getting hungry during the show. In addition to numerous downtown restaurants that will be open for business, the air show features food vendors from around the region selling everything from barbecue and gourmet sandwiches to Mexican food, ice cream and everything in between. Food vendors will be located up and down Veterans Blvd. as well as along the Riverwalk by the Owensboro Convention Center.

#5 The best seats at the 2017 Owensboro Air Show are up for grabs! Watch the City of Owensboro Facebook page for the Best Seats in the House contest. The air show will be doing trivia questions leading up to the air show for four lucky winners to receive a tailgate party with food and drinks for their friends and family to enjoy at the end of The Pier at show center behind the Owensboro Convention Center.

#6 If you don’t score the Best Seats in the House or tickets to Show Center, be sure to bring your camp chair and get down to the riverfront early to claim your spot for prime viewing. The railing along the Riverwalk usually fills up early, so don’t be late. And don’t forget there are also great viewing areas right by the river at English Park.
