Owensboro air show, art and music festival headline September events

OWENSBORO, Ky. (Aug. 4, 2015) — An air show with dazzling aerobatics, a popular downtown art and music festival, and the finale of a popular entertainment series are on the September calendar of events in Owensboro.

 

Here is a list of popular events scheduled for the Owensboro area during September.

 

East Bridge Art and Music Festival (September 5): Studio Slant hosts the 5th annual event at Smothers Park. More than 50 regional artists showcase their talents, while dozens of teams turn downtown streets into a canvas of incredible chalk art. Eastbridgeart.com

 

Owensboro Air Show (Sept. 11-13): The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds is the headliner, with the show welcoming the paratroop skills of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Unit. The piloting stunts of John Klatt, Gregory and Mike Goulian fill the sky with supercharged aerobatic aircraft. Paid flights are available on the Yankee Lady, a World War II era vintage B-17 bomber. Friday After 5 (Sept. 4): Live music plays on the Ohio River at five venues. Those span the length of Smothers Park and extend to RiverPark Center and outside the Owensboro Convention Center. The season finale brings country duo The Springs, the CMA Fest Up & Coming Artists of 2014. The Kroger Street Fair offers a back-to-school theme with children’s activities. Bluegrass act the Whipstitch Sallies perform at the Atmos Energy Courtyard. The exuberance of Whisky Shivers takes over the Party Pier. Entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. Fridayafter5.com

 

Bluegrass Jams (all month): Play or listen at open jams held throughout a town obsessed with its bluegrass roots. Find jams at the International Bluegrass Music Museum (Sept. 3, 6-9 p.m.); Bluegrass on the Bank (Sept. 1 and 15, from 7-9 p.m.) at Smothers Park; Picking in the Park (Sept. 26, from 7-9 p.m.) at Smothers Park.
