‘Friday After 5’ summer entertainment lineup for July

OWENSBORO, Ky. (June 23, 2015) — The July calendar adds an extra performance of Owensboro’s Friday After 5 series, with a fan-favorite kickoff to the Fourth of July weekend.

Friday After 5 is a summer-long concert and family entertainment series with a block party and street festival that take place each Friday through Sept. 4. Concerts begin at 6 p.m. with music playing until 11 p.m.

“Fun, free, friends and family are words to describe Friday After 5,” said Kirk Kirkpatrick, executive director. “Friday After 5 is really more than a concert series. It’s a complete entertainment experience for all ages.”

The July 3 lineup leads off with The Jimmy Church Band and its 10-piece entertainment entity. The high-energy band consists of a rhythm section, horn ensemble, dazzling choreography and the titillating voices of Cinnamon and Spice.

The July 10 headliner is Trig County, a Nashville-based country rock band made up of five talented musicians. Rhythm and blues performers the Black Widow Band play on July 27, with the Wulfe Brothers playing top 40 variety hits on July 24. On July 31, the bonus Friday on the calendar, After Midnight tunes up with classic rock from the 1970s.

Bands play all genres of music on five stages spanning the distance of Smothers Park, an Owensboro downtown district with entertainment, dining, shopping and hotels. The park features a cascading waterfall, three signature fountains, a playground and a SprayPark.

Other entertainment venues include RiverPark Center and the Owensboro Convention Center entertainment space on the Ohio River.

New this year is the Don Moore Party Pier located outside the convention center and extending out over the Ohio River. Elsewhere, acoustic acts perform at the Atmos Energy Courtyard, while Cannon Hall features Glenn Family Services’ Gospel on the River. Cannon Hall is a state-of-the-art performing arts venue with 1,479 seats inside RiverPark Center.

The Kroger Street Fair in Smothers Park offers a variety of entertaining activities for all ages. The Patio Stage, located adjacent to the RiverPark Center, represents a snapshot of the music variety at Friday After 5.
